Mission Outcome: MS
Flew to target, 1 and 2 got 3 and 1 mavericks off on first pass and then turned cold and called 3 and 4 in who got 6 mavericks off each, 1 and 2 turned hot again to re-engage and 3 and 4 were ordered to support Cobra in air to air managing to kill a SU-25, 1 and 2 got the rest of their mavericks off and then continued to support 3 and 4 in air to air. Cobra22 called that he was in trouble with a Mig29A and Mig21, Viper 23 was in the best position to take a shot but unfortunately his missile tracked Cobra22 and scored a blue on blue. We then turned towards home as the air picture was clear and interdiction flights had all completed their mission with an uneventful return home.
Good numbers of vehicles destroyed, shame about the blue on blue, I would say a lesson to learn and something that we may need to have a look at is how we engage when somebody is in a knife fight, many times we score blue on blue from firing slammers into a fight while trying to support, possibly a way to avoid this we should be calling our friendly to break off in a certain direction so that the hostile aircraft is in between us and our friendly.

Mission Outcome: MS
Uneventful INGRESS, at the push point we were cleared on target. 1&2 could not find our briefed targets, as they had moved back to the buffer zone. Lead eye-balled a column on the road north of the briefed position and targeted that. While 3&4 were in hot, 1&2 went a-a to assist Cobra (which was now down to a 1-ship). #2 got a kill and #1 damaged a bandit. With all weapons on target and without aN escort, Viper and Stud were RTB.
Happy Holidays from Blue Flight!!! |
