Flight leads in this Sunday's official campaign mission, "Korean Campaign 9" are requested to post a debrief of their flights actions by Tuesday, including any lessons learned or that should be learned by others.

We've been the first flight to make contact with the
enemy, a 4-ship SU-25, 30nm to the target area.
As briefed we left them alone, because several
MiG-29/SU-27 flew in from the north-west and were
successfully engaged. After engaging MiG-19s and -21s,
we've proceeded north, because the target area was said
to be clear and the Strike flights startet their attack runs.
Setting up a BARCAP west to the target area, we could keep
all bandits away until the package returned to base.
Overall a busy mission and the campaign adds to the uncertainty factor. |

Mission Outcome: PS
Due to spawn position we were the last to take off. We were aprox 40nm from Shark3 when they engaged AA target so called to strike flight to maintain anchor 30nm from escort until we get all clear. We entered 30 degree hold while Python3 kicked out to the east. Once called clear we resumed as fragged. We spotted a MiG-21 that leaked through which we engaged and destroyed. During this time we lost Python3 on datalink and didn't reappear till a few minuted later, unfortunately due to Python3 kicking out to the east our tot for both flights was closer than planned. Fortunately both flights sorted on separate ends of the columns as briefed. 30 miles from target we did 5miles separation between aircraft for the attack. Skal got all 6 off the railes, Ironman got 1 off before having a technical and Sharpe got all 6 off on the first pass. Skal went AA and retrograded to our IP 15miles south and maintained position over the area to get a picture while Sharpe supported Ironman for a another pass. Reviewing the ACMI Ironman got another 4 off the rails on the 4th pass, about this time called Shark3 to RTB. Su-27 were coming in from the north which I tried to lock unfortunately couldn't burn through so turned south and called RTB to all flights. Unfortunately at this point Ironman and Sharpe were commencing a 5th run on target and were quickly engaged by the Su-27 after rifle shooting down Ironman. On the way back home AWACS called 2 ship IL-28 more or less nn our flight path which Skal and Sharpe engaged and destroyed. Approx 60miles from homeplate Skal suffered a CTD and Sharpe and my AI aircraft RTB without incident.
Lessons Learned:
1. As Griffin mentioned, all flights to acknowladge Abort/RTB call unless engaged. I will admit I am unsure if I could be heard on UHF and if not my fault.
2. During a mission like this strike flight dictate the pace but it has to to a fairly quick pace. Once cleared strike need to hit hard and swiftly keeping tot to a minimum and calling RTB ASAP.
3. A technical abort procedure should be briefed beforehand in each flight eg. max 2 passes on target and if technical persists, retrograde to IP or abort.
I don't mean to sound like a dick, just trying to analise where things went wrong and learn from mistakes. |

On the way we ignored a 4ship of Su25s that were no factor. We engaged a Mig21 which slipped through from NW, after this, we also took out a Su25 which was declared as hostile and asumed was a threat to the package.
Afterwards, engaged another 2ship Mig21s. During this engagement, Poppy went defensive and broke hard deck and was hit by AAA. After this he was RTB with a bent, flyable jet.
The 21 was taken out by me.
Next, we had the Su27s coming from North, and because we still had strike flights in the area we turned north and engaged. During the engagement Zipgun was fired upon while he was already cold. Because he couldn't jettison tanks, he was unable to defeat the missile and was hit.
The 27s were destroyed, and by this time the whole package was RTB. |
