Flight leads in this Sunday's official campaign mission, "Korean Campaign 3" are requested to post a debrief of their flights actions by Tuesday, including any lessons learned or that should be learned by others.

Last flight up and already its getting very busy in front of us.
Heard Vielland say they were coming back and regrouping, directed by AWACS to engage Mig23.
Skal shot down the Mig 23.
Moved to patrol area, picked up Mig 19's coming in, Jack and Reds engaged.
Reds and Skal shot down a Mig 19 each.
Directed by AWACS to engage Mig 23 flying at low level 5000. There was quiet a melee going on down there and unfortunately, Jack, Skal and Reds all fired missiles into it downing F-%E's before Jack shot down the Mig 23.
3 friendly kills, not good.. Never ever fire missiles into a melee with so many friendlies.
Back to patrol area, Jack engaged and shot down a SU 27, Sabre and Reds were pincered by Mig29's but friendly F-15's took care of those.
Engaged group of Mig 29A's, Skal shot down 2 and Reds shot down 1 together with a Mig 19 and Sabre shot down 2 more Mig 19's.
With the flight down to two radar missiles and the area going quiet. Fury flight RTB'd.
Shooting down the friendlies spoilt an otherwise successful sortie.

We were the first flight to take off and had briefed the other flights that we would do 270kn to allow the other flights to catch up.
We quickly got engaged by Mig23's before we got separation between first and second element and I think we failed to down any of them before turning cold and allowing the other flights a shot.
Arriving at the CAP area we engaged a lot but didnt kill much.
With regards to comms, there were too much going on UHF 13. I ended up using STT (listening for buddy spike messages) more than declaring my targets. 3 flights of 4 all declaring targets, really tend to saturate comms.
I messed up at the landing, as I had convinced myself that we would land at opposite direction but as we were following Fury flight we just followed them in. |
