Flight Role: SEAD Strike

Mission Success

Weasel11: Floyd AA=0 AG=1 RTB
Weasel12: Zipgun AA=0 AG=0 EJT
Weasel13: Veiland AA=0 AG=1 RTB

We discussed how to approach the SA-10 in our detailed briefing
and Zipgun advised to attack from ~37 miles to have a good chance
to kill the radar. But the SAM was pretty aggressive, fired two
missiles and shot Zipgun down - despite his evasive actions.

We've been warned and #1 shot two AGMs, lofting the shots from 40nm.
Split-S to get out of missile envelope and the radar went down.

Proceeding east for the secondary target (SA-4), we came close to
an SA-6, changed course and #3 shot the SA-4 radar down.

Then, while flying east-west CAP, #3 picked up a contact on radar,
which was an A-50 flying back to Elbasan. We monitored the contact
and informed Serpent, but Snake had a better radar picture and
shot the A-50 down.

Our RTB was uneventful.

The briefing took longer than expected, but will get better
with routine. The concept to create a package and make a plan
while being connected to the server was new. Griffin's moderation
was straight forward and decent planning just takes time.
I think it can be done with approx. 5 minutes connecting/setup,
45 minutes planning, 90 minutes flight plus debrief.

The input from experienced campaign flyers during the planning
phase was very valuable. And new ideas like the recon flight
came up, too.

Only thing to quibble about is my planning for three or five
packages, when the 185th did the job in one mission. Oh well,
i should have known better ;-)

Well done!

Flight Role: OCA STRIKE
Serpent11: "Griffin" AA=0 AG=2 RTB
Serpent12: "Elmo" AA=0 AG=3 RTB

Mission Outcome: MS

We planned to hold our take off until the last SEAD had travelled at least 30 miles from HP, in order to give them all time to attack their targets and clear the way for us.

We climbed to A25 and held at our SP2, travelling 15 miles north and south of the station until the way was clear.

We then headed to the IP, taking care to move north to avoid a reported SA13 threat at the SA-4 site on the coast. We then descended to low level and approached the target on heading 05, Elmo taking the left runway while I took the right one. We attacked in formation. About 2 miles from the target we were warned of SA-13s to the east of the target. We reviewed our escape plan to pull hard to the west as we came off, throwing flares as fast as we could.

We then egressed to the SW at low level then climbed to A27.

We were given the heads up that an A-50 was returning to the air base we had just destroyed and turned back to engage it. Sharpe was closer, higher and faster than us so we deferred the shot to him.

The return home was uneventful and we performed a nice formation landing.

Good fun and good support from Elmo.

Flight Role: SEAD Strike

Mission Success
Shark11: Vosene AA=0 AG=1 RTB
Shark12: Jack AA=0 AG=2 RTB
Shark13: Ironman AA=0 AG=0 RTB

Plan - Push in behind Snake1 once SA-4 & SA-6 destroyed then engage SA-4 (PPT 64) & SA-10 (PPT 63).

Execution - Held feet wet waiting for Snake1 to complete their task. Once cleared in, Flight went 10nm trial. Shark11 engaged SA-4 Long-Track with Shrike, shack.

Pushed East but SA-10 did not go active, after being engaged by multiple SA-13 Shark11 engaged an SA-13 with Shrike but missed, Shark11 retrograded West. Cleared 2 & 3 to engage SA-4 to NE and SA-10 to South respectively. Unfortunately 3 had a technical but was classed as RTB as near the end of mission. Shark12 killed 2x SA-4 Long Tracks with 2 Shrike shots while being engaged by multiple SA-4.

Shark1 rejoined feet wet and RTB, joined left base for Runway 14.

Key Points:

Good planning (need to work on reducing time taken) and briefing.
Good comms between Flight Leads.

Snake 1: SEAD

Mission Outcome: MS

Snake 11: Sharpe AA:1 AG:1 (RTB)
Snake 12: Sabre AA:0 AG:0 (Tec)
Snake 13: Skal AA:0 AG:4 (RTB) + LB

We departed as fragged, however it quickly became clear Sabre was having technical's. After multiple attempts to rejoin Sabre had to gracefully exit.

At IP Skal began his run in on the SA4 with Sharpe providing cover for any pop up SA6's. However, Skal had a technical at this point and retrograded away from the target. Sharpe took a snap shot against the SA4 but missed.

Sharpe re-attacked the SA4 and used the Ai in Sabres place against the SA6. Both targets were destroyed and we called all call signs clear to proceed.

We proceeded to rejoin with Serpent 1 and provide escort/SEAD escort on their way to the main target. Skal was able to destroy SA4 and SA13 (and two other targets with the same Shrike!!!).

We then proceeded ahead of Serpent flight to provide escort. Skal was sent ahead while Sharpe retrograded towards the target area again in order to check Serpents six. At this point an A-A threat was ID'd, Sharpe turned towards it and was clread to shoot it (an A-50).

Thence RTB without incident.

Notes on mission: I think I can speak for the whole flight when I say I thought the mission and the idea of the mission and campaign, multiple package attempts was a really great idea and very fun.

-Sharpe
