Flight Role: Scramble
Cowboy11: Utopic AA=6 AG=0 RTB
Cowboy12: Ironman AA=0 AG=0 DAMAGED ON TAXI
Cowboy13: Zipgun AA=5 AG=0 RTB
Cowboy14: Vosene AA=0 AG=0 DAMAGED ON TAXI

Mission Outcome: MF

We waited for full alignment then proceeded to taxi. Ironman had some issues with the tower releasing chocks so he taxied behind Zipgun only to be damaged/destroyed on the taxiway together with Vosene.

Took off and started to engage fighters/bombers at will over the airfield. This continued more or less up to the point where we were Winchester when we landed on an inland alternate airfield.

The initial plan went up in smoke due to the enemy saturation.

I enjoyed the mission despite the "unfair" balance and can recognize Sharpe's frustrations about balancing and testing.

Flight Role: QRA/Intercept
Callsign11: Sabre AA=0 AG=0 EJT
Callsign12: Sharpe AA=1 AG=0 EJT
Callsign13: Skal AA=3 AG=0 EJT
Callsign14: Crowebar AA=6 AG=0 EJT

Mission Outcome: MF

Both Sabre & Skal had technicals entering pit and had to re-commit, which put them behind by a few minutes on the ramp start. Sharpe and myself setoff on taxi as soon as we had INS aligned.

I think I was airborne as Sharpe entered runway, by which time Sabre and Skal were on taxi. I decided to remain in burner and gain a height advantage before turning hot, levelling off around angels 20 ish. By now I had heard that Sabre hadn't made it to the runway, being taken out on taxi. Sharpe had taken out one mig and was hit himself within a few seconds of that. Skal was now airborne and joining the fight.

I remained over OSAN for most of the flight, picking off 4 migs & missing 2 before becoming Winchester. Skal was also in the fight, but we had no co-ordination between us and were acting as singletons in the melee. He managed 3 kills before getting hit.

The only other aircraft remaining were Cowboy 11 & 13 who were Winchester. We all turned first South looking for a friendly base as sky was till full of migs. Mig-29's came up on the RWR to South West causing us to veer East towards Chongwon.

I was on a high downwind leg to land, sweating on a mig-29 on the RWR, hoping to get down quick. He fired a missile at me so decided I had no choice but to try and engage him with guns. His next missile got me.

As one of the few who made it into the air, I enjoyed the TE. However I feel the frustration of those who put the time and effort into flying on a Sunday, only to be hit on the ground on taxi.

Fury11 Veiland AA=1 AG=0 RTB
Fury12 Elmo AA=4 AG=0 RTB

Took off, and turned north as we got MIG-21 RWR from that direction, so wansn't aware of J-8 south of the base.
Turned out all hostiles north of the base were heading back north, so instead we switched to a 2-ship Mig-19 that was inbound towards the base.
Once these were splashed, we headed back towards base (honestly a bit too far out, about 30nm) in time to engage a big group of inbound MIG-23ML's.
Elmo managed to splash 3 MIG-23ML then CTD, while I crashed back to 2D with my missiles still in the air.

I think this mission, possibly by the package commander, should have been called a full squadron “scramble” so not waiting for full 8min alignment.
Whilst there may have been some confusion with DATA I think we would have had a better chance of survival – or at least all got off the ground – we lost 1/3 of our pilots on the ground.
I think we were doomed from then on.

Full ins alignment was needed for time factors in the mission, plus it would not have had the same visual effect. It was scripted into the mission design.
