Posted - 29 Apr 2014 : 08:48:02 Flight Role: ESCORT Gauntlet11: Floyd AA=2 AG=0 EJT Gauntlet12: Flyingstone AA=0 AG=0 EJT Gauntlet13: Novac AA=2 AG=0 EJT Gauntlet14: Griffin AA=3 AG=0 EJT Outcome: MF Takeoff as usual, but getting close to waypoint 4 the flight fell apart, because we lost #2 and #4 in A2A engagements. After clearing the threats with the help of the second escort flight, #1 (winchester) and #3 followed the Strike flight in close escort to the target, where a group of 4 MiG-21 shot down the last 2. Lessons learned: it should be briefed in more detail which escort should attack what bandits and when. This time it was a problem with the second escort flying into the danger zone without enough knowledge or situational awareness about the air picture. A human AWACS would really help in these situations.

Posted - 27 Apr 2014 : 22:07:59 Flight Role: Deep Strike
Snake11: Vosene 1 2 RTB Snake12: Zipgun 0 3 RTB
Mission Outcome: MF (Due to number of aircraft lost in package).
Plan - Strike 3x radar at target using LGB (12B/b)
Execution -
Loitered during ingress waiting for SEAD & Escort to clear the way.
As Mission Commander, Snake11 assessed package and mission status before deciding to press on target, advising remaining Escort aircraft to join together and provide Close Escort for Snake1.
Cloud over target forced Snake11 below cloud base. Primary radar target engaged and shacked but during engagement SA-3 over target engaged No 1. No 2 engaged Low Blow radar as pre-briefed with LGB, shack. No 1 engaged second radar and No 3 engaged final radar, both shacked. BDA by Magic confirmed all targets destroyed.
Snake1 went Cat 1 and pushed East to support Intruder11 who was in a furball with MiGs. Snake1 joined up with Intruder1 but was unable to find MiGs (tech issue?)
Intruder1 was fuel critical and pushed North to ejected over the sea while Snake1 expedited RTB due to others waiting.
During egress Snake11 had 2x shots on 1x MiG-29 called by AWACS at same time as picked up on RWR. Both Slammers hit, bandit splashed.
ILS approach to 14L at Hatzerim with strong crosswind from right.
From Strike perspective, good support from SEAD & Escorts and thanks to Griffin for writing the mission.

Posted - 27 Apr 2014 : 22:03:35 Flight Role: ESCORT Wildcat11: utopic AA=1 AG=0 EJT Wildcat12: dmans AA=5 AG=0 TECH Wildcat13: ironman AA=2 AG=0 EJT
Mission Outcome: MF
Took off ~2 minutes behind an aircraft that was probably an AI. Was ~3 minutes behind the rally point (STPT3) and tried to catch up.
The SEAD flight was spread to our left, just as behind as us. Meanwhile, the other escort flight was beginning to engage bandits. We tried to support but without a full acmi, I don't know exactly what happened.
I had fired and the bandits but I think my missiles missed as the bandits were destroyed by the other flights. We engaged another 29 flight coming from the north, only to apparently waste one more missile.
The 23s coming from the target area were too far away to be engaged as the SA6s were still up.
Meanwhile, another flight of 29s were coming from the south, we engaged, managed to actually destroy one bandit but died in the process.
There were some connection issues in that I sat Dmans with his gear down at ~A25-30 (?!?), the IDM was on and off, and most of the time I didn't have Ironman on the HSD. The overall comms were less than ideal, and I assume it was even worst for Ironman, as he didn't have any IVC, in spite of my efforts to be verbose on TS. |
