The plan was to escort the SEAD flight(s) towards target area, but our package was 40nm in front, engaged by MiG-31. My flight could catch up and shoot bandits down, except one low flying one tried to escape, but #3 got him after a longer turn fight. We lost the ai #4 in this engagement.
Now a 3-ship we proceeded towards target to cover our SEAD flight, that started to lose the fight against just too many SAM sites. All air contacts stayed cold.
As this was a campaign flight my recommendation was to man the Escorts - what was wrong. The SEAD flights trade 2 Aim-7 missiles for HARMs compared to the Escorts and that way our chances could have been better.

Posted - 21 Apr 2014 : 07:59:12 For comparison, in reality, according to AFI11-2F-16V3, the lowest allowable fuel level in the F-16 on landing is 800 lbs for Block 40 and above.
This is known as the Emergency Fuel level and pilots are not permitted to land with less fuel on board the aircraft without a very good excuse.
According to the same document, the minimum fuel on landing should normally be at least 1,000 lbs for the Block 40 and above.

Mission Outcome: MS
Faced with multiple threats and few weapons available, we prioritized the SA-5/SA-10 sites first and the pop-up SA-6s 2nd. Lead and #3 fell prey to the SA-4s which were unrelenting, but alas, we were out of HARMS. #2 out of chaff, flares, and fuel critical detached from the fight and RTB'd with 6 lbs. of fuel remaining at shut-down. |

Declared to AWACs and got a bogey call. Normally when you get a bogey call from the AI AWACs it's an enemy. Fired 1 x aim120 and shot down Panther 24 (AI) At 1st we thought the missile had switched to a friendly target because the mig was splashed but my missile tracked straight to the AI F16. The Mig was still flying at the time.
In my experience AI AWACS calling bogey is not always an enemy and it should never be used as a positive indication of an enemy, depending on the ROE you may sometimes be able to fire on a contact declared as outlaw but even then it isn't 100% guaranteed to be enemy. Bandit and Hostile are definitely enemy.
Brevity Definitions
Friendly - A positively identified friendly contact.
Bogey - A radar or visual air contact whose identity is unknown.
Outlaw - Informative call that a bogey has met point of origin criteria (ie, contact came from a known enemy location).
Bandit - An aircraft identified as enemy, in accordance with theater ID criteria. The term does not necessarily imply direction or authority to engage (that depends on ROE).
Hostile - A contact identified as enemy upon which clearance to fire is authorized in accordance with theater rules of engagement.

Mission Outcome: MS
Took off and climbed to A29 and 10 miles behind 2nd element of Panther 1st mistake of the flight was we could see Griffin and his wingman in a turning fight with a Mig31 so decided to help him out. It was our plan to fly to the right of flight plan and engage any enemy from the east. We were unable to fly right of track as there were too many SAMs so stayed on course. Got a call to engage a MIG 29 which Veiland splashed. However shortly after the kill he was hit by an SA4.
Sometime later the strike flight went low level to attack the target. As they approached a pair of MIG31's popped up but I was unable to support as the SAM concentration was too high. Had to turn cold several times due to SA4 & SA6 launches.
It was then an RTB when strike were hit.
I don't think we had a chance of a successful mission with that one due to the high SAM numbers and low number of human pilots. In hindsight it may have been better to man the other SEAD flight with humans we "might" have stood a chance.
Thanks Floyd.

Posted - 13 Apr 2014 : 22:14:22 Flight Role: STRIKE Lobo21: Vosene AA=0 AG=0 KIA Lobo22: Skal AA=0 AG=3 MIA
Mission Outcome: MS
Took off, took fuel from tanker waiting for support flights to clear way.
Low level at feet dry to try and avoid multiple active AD systems, both shot down by SA-15 at target, although 2 got some bombs away and knocked out the runway before getting nailed.
Lessons
A difficult mission that became impossible for the Strike to complete without loses due to only one SEAD flight having human pilots. They had only six HARMS to deal with many AD threats. It was identified that mission should have been aborted at planning stage but due to this being a sim we pressed on anyway and the end result was entirely predicable. Thanks to SEAD and Escorts for a valiant effort in supporting the strike.
Anyone have an ACMI from this mission?
