Panther13: "Lancer" AA=0 AG=0 RTB

Mission Outcome: MS
Equipped with JDAMS, flight operated a HI-HI-Hi profile, flying just behind Lobo flight. Like Lobo Panther 1 chose to disregard A-A threats (promptly disposed of by the escorts - thanks guys!).

Overt target, primary target (power station) destroyed by 11 and 1 of 2 secondary targets (ammo dumps) destroyed by 12.

Clean flight home.

Flight Role: SEAC ESCORT

Gipsy12: "Utopic" AA=1 AG=2 EJT
Gipsy13: "Blade" AA=0 AG=2

Mission Outcome: MS

PLAN:

Ignore or avoid all enemy aircraft at the ingress until we reach the IP. When at the IP or when called, #1 would ingress straight in low level to attack the Straigh Flush with GBU-12s, #2 would take a 20° right offset 1min and keep high to attack the CBU-97s, #3 would take a 30° right offset 1 min and go low level to attack radar. 3 F-16Is fragged for the same target. No way it can go wrong. Specially after a well flown recon mission, which found the coordinates of the SA-6.

ACTION:

1) Before reaching the IP, 2 Fulcrums A intercepted us, but the escort flight with the aid of some AI flights engaged them and shot them down. Coordination was good here.

2) At the IP, a single 29A took -off and tried to fly towards Damascus. Gipsy2 engaged while #1 and #3 ingressed as fragged.

3) It was difficult to spot the SA-6 radar. It was moving. When about 10nm from tgt are, two 29s took off to intercept us. #2 was high and #3 was not in position to support. #1 engaged both 29s with one slammer in the face each. Both shot down. Due to the A-A engagement, neither #1 nor #3 were able to spot the radar and egressed dry.

4) After two more attempts/passes, #1 found the radar and dropped a LGB on it on plain pop-up attack. During that attack, visual on Vosene and Dmans at their runway attack. Very nice scene.:-)

5) #2 was shot down by manpad when flying at 4000-7000 feet before dropping CBUs.

6) Launchers engaged by #1 and #3 succesfully. RTB

LESSONS LEARNED:

1) CBU is not the weapon of choice to hunt SA-6, much less SA-11s and SA-17s. In flights lead by myself, wingmen carrying CBUs will not be cleared to engage mobile SAMs until radar(s) is out.

2) Better TOT coordination between the flights. Zipgun and Jack drop JDAMS on the airbase while 4 F-16s were at low level attacking the same airbase. Simple luck that no one got frags.

@Blade: Good flying and good kills!

Flight Role: STRIKE
Lobo11: Zipgun AA=0 AG=0 RTB
Lobo12: Jack AA=0 AG=1 RTB
Lobo13: Dmans1 AA=0 AG=1 RTB
Lobo14: Vosene AA=0 AG=0 RTB

Mission Outcome: MS

Drove in at high-level, ignoring the hostile calls in our path. 3/4 split at IP to do a low-level attack on the runways, 1/2 went gate to shut down the airfield before the Migs could get airborne. All targets were hit, we rejoined and enjoyed a pleasant flight home.

Fury 2 - Escort

Fury 21: Griffin AA=3, AG=0 RTB
Fury 22: Floyd AA=2, AG=0 RTB

Mission outcome: MS

Took off and climbed A34 and spread. Stayed about ten miles behind Gypsy and engaged two Mig 29As that appeared from the north east, advising Gypsy to drop south. I killed one Mig while another friendly AI flight to the north killed the other.

Gypsy called that Mig 29A's were taking off from the target air base. We went to engage but the first was killed by Gypsy. Other 29s stated to take off but it was difficult to split our planes from the Mig's on radar. Gypsy took care of them while Floyd and I headed north to block Mig 23's that were heading to the target area. We took care of four of them and a second flight thankfully wasn't interested in us and headed towards Damascus and the SA-17 that was spiking us from time to time. We ignored them. (EDIT: On watching the ACMI it turns out they were Su-22's = no factor)

The strike flights did their job; we regrouped and RTB'd each with one slammer left.

Good mission well executed by all IMO.
