Close escort for strike flight Shark. Slightly delayed takeoff with burner climb to angels 25 to establish and maintain 10-15 mile lead
Listened to Viper on sweep ahead, ran into traffic jam leaving Sead flight astern.
Tasked to engage Mig29's which took us away from strike and into the SA-3 envelope. Skal was shot down, Ghostrider collided with terrain with 2 kills.
Mango and I resumed as fragged. Heard the calls for Su35's but no factor for strike. Unable to locate Mig23's when called, probably beneath us.
Escorted strike onto target, engaged by SA8 at target site, then followed strike to alternate runway at home plate.

Posted - 22 Jan 2014 : 19:54:57 Flight Role: ESCORT Viper11: "Griffin" AA=4 AG=0 RTB Viper12: "Veiland" AA=5 AG=0 RTB Viper13: "Floyd" AA=2 AG=0 RTB Viper14: "Novac" AA=1 AG=0 RTB
Mission Outcome: MS
We were first up and tasked to double up on our escort role to the SEAD but also to sweep all before us.
We had a busy time and encountered two Mig 29As. Veiland and I engaged them. Mine was hit and the second was hit by Vieland. We turned cold and let the second element of Floyd and Novac take over at which point we noted the contacts to the north. We later found that they were Su 24 Fencers which drew us off track. Floyd was first there and we disengaged and returned towards the track without firing on them.
We regrouped and asked the other flights to hold back while we pushed on. We then encountered two Su 35s. Veiland got a shot off at them and they launched Adders at the SEAD flight. Veiland missed but Floyd and Novac took their shots. Novac killed the lead and Floyd damaged the No2. I finished him off.
With barely time to recover we had 4 x Mig 29As in the south. In order to preserve our remaining weapons for the target site I requested that Snake flight engage those while we pumped north. That was when we came across two Mig 25's. Veiland and I engaged them, followed by Floyd and Novac. They were stubborn. Veiland killed both the Mig 25's.
Meanwhile Snake still had two Mig 29As left. We turned south and between Floyd Novac and Utopic in the SEAD, the remaining two Migs were killed.
We paused for breath and regrouped. We headed to the target area and held short of the SA-10 circles while SEAD did their job.
SEAD called that they had Mig 23s bothering them. Dmans engaged and killed one of them, but we called him off so he and his flight could kill the SA10s.
Veiland and I fired killing one Mig 23 each. I asked Novac and Floyd to monitor the remaining one while we turned north. This last Mig 23 just ran away.
We regrouped around the target. We monitored Su 35's in the NE but they never came south.
Strike came off target and we all flew home and landed safely.
A really enjoyable mission and they best one for me in A-A mode. Thanks Homer.
A terrific start by Veiland with five bandit kills on his 185th debut. A good job by the pilots in this escort. Well done chaps. To come up against that many threats and kill 12 aircraft without a scratch is commendable.

Posted - 22 Jan 2014 : 19:12:35 SEAD Stud 11 - utopic Stud 12 - Zipgun Stud 13 - Dmans
We took as properly and was trailing Viper who was providing escort. When Viper got into caressing some Mig29s, we started beaming the 29s, heading north. However, I got shot at max range by one 29 that liked my instead of the juicier (and closer) escort. I dodged that and circled around.
By this time, there was a traffic jam on the great highway in the sky, and fell behind the strike package.
Everybody was anxious to have the SA10s around so we hurried to get that done, meaning Dmans and the AI broke away to get the first SA10. The AI died like an idiot in the regular fashion, but Dmans took it out with one Harm and half a wink.
I shot a harm at the target SA2, it missed for some dark arcane reason, so I fired the second harm. Although this hit, the "2" symbol remained in the HAD all the time.
Zipgun took out the other SA10 (on a night walk) and Dmans took out another SA2 with his second harm and the other half of the wink.
After that, we went to the holding point, only to be freaked out by 8-10 enemy contacts. They turned out to be bombers, so we ignored them and RTBd after a longish wait.
Next time we'll go to the alternate.
Good mission, Homer. ;) |
