Flight Role: STRIKE Cowboy11: "Utopic" AA=1 AG=1 RTB Cowboy12: "Zipgun" AA=1 AG=1 RTB Cowboy13: "Homer" AA=2 AG=2 RTB Cowboy14: AI AA=0 AG=1 RTB
The plan was to stay out of trouble, watch for an opportunity and drop our bombs and we managed to do that.
On ingress I saw that friendlies were engaging bandits and intentionally kept comms on minimum.
Because the bandits were slow to die, while keeping on course, we got close to the fighting area. We had turned 90 left, so as to beam the bandits, but we got a call from Fury (IIRC) recommending to turn cold. It was a good call, so thanks for that!
While keeping out of the fight, we had a 4ship of 29s coming in at medium aspect. They weren't an immediate threat but decided to engage as they were denying us of the possibility to retreat towards home plate.
Myself and Zipgun sorted on 1st element, and Homer took care of the second element.
We then proceeded with the ingress and attack, not before Fury took out a single low flying mig 21 below us.
#1 and #2 dropped JDAMS in pairs, taking out the 2 largest buildings. #3 & #4 dropped LGBs, with Homer making 2 runs for 2 different targets because we lacked the 4th human.
Nothing spectacular on the way back, Homer was first to land as we was rather low on fuel.
I want to congratulate Zipgun for staying in formation, even when I turned abruptly and Homer who did the work of the whole second element (on the A-A engagement as well as on the A-G bombing). Good work!
I also want to thank Griffin for AWACS as that gave me a good picture, especially on the group we engaged.
Learning point for me: must eyeball and zoom in more on the HSD as on the way back I was looking at #3 and thinking that was #2.
Any feedback is welcome. |

Plan 1. Falcon flight to follow flightplan after takeoff. At STP 3, 1st element to push ahead of 2nd for seperation. 1st element to descend at STP 4 for runway attack, 2nd element to follow from high alt run on hangers.
Execution After Takeoff proceeded as fragged, first SA2 was taken down before we reached it as planned. Once over the first SA2 position we got SU27 spike. We turned 25 degrees off course to avoid contact, however the SU27 got within visual forcing me to engage (destoyed). Imminently after received MiG29 spike and turned cold back toward position of first SA2 to regroup and proceed to target. Received comms to support Lobo against MiG-31s, Mango had radar contact and advised to engage. (destroyed). It was during this time Jack mistakenly first engaged Griffin who was mixed in with a MiG29. Jack turned to join up on me when I received friendly missile launch on RWR and went defensive, unfortunatly Jack got hit blue on blue my Whodat. I approached the second SA2 with seperation from 2nd element as planned. Second SA2 was not yet down as I found out when I went defensive turning cold against the missile. Around this time I got a MiG-29 spike, tried to run but was within missile range so turned and fired however MiG fired about the same time. MiG destroyed but I got hit and ejected.
2nd element proceeded to target as fragged, however informed SA3 is still up and SEAD are out of ordinance. AI dropped GBU however was shot down (what luck unknown). Mango turned cold and prepared for a second pass, dropped GBU on Hangar (destroyed). Mango attempted 3rd pass however aborted and RTB.
Good mission with plenty of lessons learned I think. Thanks :-)
