Posted - 16 Sep 2013 : 19:25:56 I enjoyed this mission with it's variety of tests. By that I mean trying to catch up with the flight on front to co-ordinate attacks (Tiag and Vaughan agreed that the first flight should have delayed take off to achieve a better package set up). There was the test of landing loaded aircraft so that we could refuel. It highlighted how much pounding the brakes take and how they wear out after too much use. I second Utopic's point about hit to kill ratio of our weapon's. Lot's of them used and only two kills in total and they were Blade's. I know that some of you don't find Red flag to your taste but it really is worth persevering with as it is pretty rewarding, especially when you have the superb intel from Neptune of the 87th and the great AWACs we had.

Get it while it's hot.
Comms need to be better, as this leads to better SA. For example, I had no idea the 1st flight was down to a 3ship/2ship/1ship.
I did enjoy Blade & Jack's hunt of F16s deep into never never land - talk about cheekiness
And this mission as well as previous RF engagements show the hit percentage of the AIM120 AMRAAM against similar performance aircraft (flown by humans) -> not so great. |

Mission Outcome: Unknown
The plan was to attack patriot air defenses around Yechon. With home plate being Panghyon it was going to be a long flight, so we decided to land and refuel at Mandumi. This section of the flight was uneventful.
After leaving Mandumi, we had slightly too much separation from Mongo5. Unfortunately, while they were in hot on target, some hostile contacts popped up and shot down Tiag and possibly Jack.
Then, while we were trying to clear the bandits from Blade, things got busy. We lost Floyd. Griffin went in hot on the Patriot while Utopic and I maintained air cover. Several more enemy contacts popped up and fired on Griffin, then us. We all went defensive and tried to drag them towards a friendly flight to the north. Many slammers were fired with the only success being from Griffin who hit a low-flying F16, which then crashed.
Griffin was almost bingo, and we had 4 slammers between the three of us, so we headed back to Suwon to refuel and then RTB'd back to Panghyon.
An enjoyable, if manic, mission. I had 2 CTDs, so have no useful debrief information. |
