Blade initially joined as #4 but due to dodgy internet connection - disconnected.
We climbed to A30 immediately after take off and proceeded towards target area. Chalis informed us of 2 ship SU-27 cap over target area, and we soon seen these as jamming contacts. Also informed of 2 ship Mig-23s off to our right, no imediate factor.
We entered into engagement with SU-27s first with myself and #2 sorting one bandit each. #3 was 10 miles trail with contacts on FCR so able to support. Lead element fired and cranked, before going defensive incoming R77s. Unfortunately #2 crashed into Ocean in the dark while defensive agains missiles. #1 succesfully evaded missiles, and killed SU27. #3 followed through the initial attack and splashed 2nd SU27.
During the later stages of this engagement Chalis warned of Mig-23s now hot on package from North. We immediately turned on these, sorted and engaged. #1 killed 1st, #4 (AI) killed 2nd.
Very short breathing space before 3 x Mig29S entered the foray. we hadn't re-grouped following last engagement, and with #1 being closest I fired 2 X Slammers at 2 of the contacts, supported to 13 miles which was too close and turned defensive. paid the price with being splashed- ejected. AI in #4 also killed at this stage. Python1 engaged and killed these contacts.
#3 continued to close escort the strikers for remainder of mission on instruction from Chalis, with no further air combat. He RTB'd safely.
Nice mission thanks Elmo

Took off last, realized on the runway that our Jdams could not be dropped with the Mav. screen as I thought and was to late to get more than general instructions how to do so, which ultimately resulted in both of us not being able to use our JDAMS. Flew to SP2 and held between SP2 and 3 while escorts dealt with enemy air threats and Sam threats. Chalice cleared us in when all was clear and we turned in hot planning to drop our JDAMS from 15 miles out and then CCRP our CBUs on the same run as we got closer. As I said the Jdams did not come off the pylons as having precision SPs is not enough to release them. By the time we realized this it was to late to use CBUs and we turned off target dry. It was then that we were spiked by 2 Mig29s and Jack being the closer to them went A2A and shot them down. I was aware at the time that Chalice had allocated the 2 Migs to Floyds flight and I failed twice , first to convey to Jack that they were being engaged and then once he had engaged them to inform other flights that we were engaging. Jack shot them down but had to jettison all his weapons during the fight and being short of fuel started to RTB. I decided to go in for another pass and managed to drop 2 CBUs on target before succumbing to my own bomb debris. Obviously the problem with the Jdams should have been taken care of before hand but thanks to Elmo hope to cover it during the week, better late than never... Thanks Elmo again for an enjoyable TE and Vosene for the good management of the package. Also well done to Jack for his first official TE (including RTBing to tell the tale...) and welcome to Green flight. Sorry no debrief relevant to this flight. |
