As backup weapon I would have taken BSU-50s.

Another option could be AGM-158s JASSM....long, long range, but the punch (1000pounds) is not so high.

Which kind of GBU you got? II or III? III is better for pop-ups attacks ...where you need more maneuverability to hit the tgt.

We initially were going to take JDAMs, but there were comments that some people hadn't had much experience with them so it was decided to stick with the LGB's rather than risk employment issues.

Oddly enough we also discussed taking MK82's rather than the extra GBU's but again we didn't think we'd get into the situation they would be needed.

We took GBU10C/B. Did anyone get an acmi? I would be interested in checking a few things :)

That SA-6 was determined I'll give him that!

It was still a good experience regardless and I'd be interested in some training that involves striking targets under heavy sam cover.

*Apologies I'm not a flight lead, but here's my input

In hindsight, I think the difference between mission success and mission failure for Cowboy was that one SA-6 covering SP6 (second target) thus not allowing us to get into effective range to use the GBU's from high altitude as intended, I think if Cowboy had gone into the flight without being totally dependent on the SEAD escort (no offense did a sterling job getting us that far), we should have recon the enemy SAM sites around the target more effectively just incase the SEAD escort were unable to clear the area. Looking back I think either the element leads or wingmen should have also taken 2xAGM88 or AGM65's plus the LGB's just as a backup plan rather than 4x GBU's as after all, it's more effective to get 2 bombs on target from each aircraft with high precision rather than risking no aircraft making it to the target atall. Enjoyed my first mission though guys remind me I need to set up my TS whisper aswell lol.

Flight Role: SEAD ESCORT
Falcon11: "Griffin" AA=2 AG=4 RTB
Falcon12: "Elmo" AA=0 AG=0 EJT
Falcon13: "Tiag" AA=0 AG=4 RTB
Falcon14: "Floyd" AA=0 AG=1 RTB

Mission Outcome: PS

ELOA: Bat and Novac.

Our loadout was asymetric and I won't be doing that again in a hurry. We knew that SA-17's were in the area and we also had numerous other static and mobile SAMs to take care of. So our load out was 4x120c slammers, 1 x AGM88 Harm and 2 x AGM154A JSOWs. I spent most of the mission trying to trim the aircraft.

That said the mission was busy and gave us plenty to think about. A tech glitch meant that our new flight plan was not loaded into the DTC so we winged it, heading first to the bullseye where we knew that a SA-2 was waiting. Fury flight took care of lots of enemy aircraft and we engaged 2 x M29S, killing one but losing Elmo in the process. My bad for that. Sorry Elmo.

Tiag in No3 was ahead at the end of the melee and headed for the SA-2, all the time waiting for the SA10 lock. He got the lock before engaging the SA-2. I took over and he went for the SA-10. Both targets were destroyed. We pushed for the target area and were engaged by Mig 25s from the west. These were taken care of by us and Fury. Floyd killed an SA-6 and by that time Tiag had to exit the area because of low fuel. I had to follow soon after but not before killing SA10 launchers with the JSOWs. Tiag used his to kill the SA-3 Low Blow.

We departed for the alternate and landed safely. Due to numbers of Cowboy lost to SAMs (1) we only got a partial success.

A really tight and busy mission. Nice one Blade.

Lesson learned: Always have the AWACs airborne before you commit.

Cowboy1 strike
1 Mango A2G 1 A2A 0 Ejec
2 Joif A2G 2 A2A 0 RTB
3 Wolfman A2G0 A2A 0 eject
4 AI
Mission outcome:MF

Took off and held back while other flights took care of enemy fighters and SAM threats. Went in hot on SP 5 powerplant taken out
by 1 as 3 and 4 were engaged by Sams. Proceeded to SP 6 nuclear reactor with 2 but were both engaged by numerous SA2s 6s. 1 was shot down 2 managed to evade and got GBU off at the reactor but missed, proceeded to RTB safely. 3 ran out of fuel and crashed while attempting to land at alternate.
Came across 2 strange things:1.the flight plan stayed the original although it was changed and saved before T.O
2.Apon going A2G my radar was locked on the SP/ target without my touching the TMS and could not be released even when I moved to next SP also enslaving the TGP to the first SP??
All in all chalenging, kept SA up thanks to DL, ultimately were exposed to too many SAMs around targets to really have a go.

Flight Role: (ESCORT)
Fury11: "Dmans1" AA=4 AG=0 RTB
Fury12: "Helldiver" AA=3 AG=0 RTB
Fury13: "Blade" AA=2 AG=0 RTB
Fury14: "AI" AA=2 AG=0 RTB

Mission Outcome: PS

LOA: Crowebar,Oly

Mission Plan: Sweep ingress route, not risking any tresspass of the known SAMS. TARCAP over 2 targets until strike flight reports RTB

Execution: As fragged. Tarcap was set west of target area due to active SA2,SA3 covering the east target.

Shots Made: 3Ship Mig29S from the west, reported by SEAD flight: 2Shots from 1st element, 2nd element 1 shoy. 3 kills

4ship Mig21 intercepting the flight path. 2Shots from leader, 1 shot from 2nd element. 1st element was then, detached to an inbound 2ship Mig29S. 2nd element furballed with the remaider Mig21, was deloused by leader.

2Ship Mig29S: Was engaged by SEAD,downed 1, then 1st element took over. 1 shot by lead, miss, 2nd shot by lead hit, damaged, lead scrambled to delouse mig21,3rd shot by wingman, destroyed.

4Ship Mig25: Monitored and waited for SAMS to be cleared, then engaged by #2 and #3. 2 Shots 2 kills. The other 2 ship splitted and was spotted and engaged by SEAD over the sea.

Lessons Learned: Nothing to report for my flight, except the furball with the Mig21. Good comms, good aborts. Furball could have been avoided, but it was a textbook delouse.
IMO SEAD should have fired their remaining HARM on the nuclear plant before RTB and not engage the SA3. It would have given us and the strike valuable breathing room.
Strike flight never stated their attack plan. It turned out that hight altitude LGB attack was planned but we never knew that until the debrief. Having known that, the Seoul SA2 should have been a primary target for the SEAD.

Intraflight coms were very good, keeping the SA high, Lumper did ,as usual,a very good job providing picture and giving early warnings.
Very good TE, really enjoyed it.
