No fences were harmed during my landing.

Posted - 18 May 2010 : 20:20:30 1st of all my apologies for lack of specific details as the sun is shining in and I'm using the laptop in the garden to write this. (You can't waste the sun in the UK as we don't see it very often)
Cowboy flight.

PLAN
We dragged the IP point of the route to the west over a large river inlet to the west to avoid flying over any built up areas that may be home to AAA sites etc mentioned in the brief. Also due to the threat of AAA we decided to use MAV G's instead of GBU's. The GBU's would have taken us too close to any AAA over the target site.
We held short of the runway until the immediate area was clear of air threats. Once airborne we climbed to A25 and our only hold point was short of the SA5 while the escort and sead escort did a good job of clearing all the air threats without loss.
Once the SA5 was down we preceded to target. Each member of the flight targeting the buildings required to get us at least a PS on the 1st pass. This was done without problem except having to turn cold once the mavs were away due to the active SA2's Even the AI got his target (NW tanks)under the control of #3
While lining up for the 2nd pass we were informed by Lumper in AWACS that the whole of the chemical plant was destroyed. Confirmed by MFD pictures.
We then RTB'd.
Once back in the UI it was confirmed that each of the human and AI pilots destroyed their intended targets only. NO STRAY MISSILES. This info was passed to command and it was decided the strike flight should get a MS. The place must have burnt down or whatever AF decides to do with its targets
Unfortunately Pinbeck in Escort had to eject over the target site. But was safely rescued the next day. He is said to be very happy with his extra head
ACMI available if required.
Thanks for the flight Blade

Mission name: 2 hd strike v1
Mission Type: SEAD Escort Flight Callsign: Falcon 1 2 Ship Flight Ac type: F-16A-MLU Country: U.S.
Ballistic FL & Crowebar #2 SEAD Escort for Black Flight.
Priority was SA5 radar followed by any pop up SAMs and only to take out the SA2s if remaining ammo allowed as they were not a major threat at the target. #1 climbed to A29 and engaged the SA5 successfully. AWACs (Lumper) advised Mig 21s on CAP ahead so #2 covered Pinbeck in the Escort AA. An SA6 popped up and was taken out by #1 then Mig 29s were reported from the North. Escort was engaging & Falcon joined the fight but #1 & #2 both went defensive with R77s inbound. #2 re-engaged and supported Escort taking 1 Mig 29. #1 picked up 2 Mig 21s at low level and immediately intercepted and destroyed the bandits. A single Mig 29 was reported as still active and #1 could not get radar elevation to work above A15 for some reason so switched to dogfight mode and just pointed the nose at the Mig until lock, fox 3, home on jam - yipee time to bug out and RTB winchester. #2 proceeded forward with Escort flight and took out an SA6 then also RTB'd winchester.
Enjoyed the TE - Nice one Blade - keep them coming mate.

Mission:- Escort
Took off from Kimpo and as I was a single human I joined up with SEAD Escort flight, Ballistic and Crowbar to make a four ship.
We flew to the north west so that SA-5 could be destroyed.
While the SEAD flight was engaging the SAM I stayed A/A and engaged a 2 ship Mig 21 flight shooting them both down.
Flying towards target after the Mig and SAM engagement we then had 3 separate flights of Mig-29SM's coming in hot. I engaged the front group while the SEAD engaged the other flights.
Shot down the migs with AI helping and the SEAD engaging other flight. After the Migs were down I proceeded to the target after Lumper called picture clear, to check if any threats were at that waypoint.
While orbiting the target I got a missile launch warning but no indication on panel from where, turned defensive but was unable to evade and was shot down.
Original plan was for me to also take a Harm so that I could see the SAM threat but I made the mistake in the arming screen of giving the Harm to the AI. No Comment

Posted - 16 May 2010 : 21:47:49 After taking off and forming at STP2, we proceeded to Angels 20 for the ride in to STP3 where we intended to hold until the SA5 was destroyed. Timing was good and we arrived at 3 just as the SA5 radar went down, so we carried on to STP4.
Shortly after passing 3, we were spiked by MiG-29s on our 3 o'clock so we turned southwest to put them on our six and called in Escort to clear us. As the Escort intercepted the 29s, we turned 270 and managed to fly right over the top of a squadron of MiG-21s who duly took off and intercepted us. Bad planning on my part there...
We engaged the MiG-21s and lost -2 (AI) and -4 (Blade) to them. By the time we'd cleared the threat, I had no bombs left as I dropped them, Sabre was still fully loaded, but we only had Snakebite to support us otherwise. Reports of a flight of MiG-29 over the target made it a no-brainer - we aborted and RTB'd. Sabre got a telling off from Mrs. Tower for landing the wrong way down the runway, but other than it was an uneventful ride home.
Good mission though, shame we never got to test my bomb-run theory... ;) Thanks to Blade, looking forward to his next one!
