Posted - 15 Dec 2009 : 20:06:08 LESSON LEARNED:
Ground Targets in a mission should receive a clear identification (names, numbers, codes, ...) and everyone, from AWACS to the number 4 in Escort Flight, should be aware of that.

Took off as briefed, headed NE and waited for the escorts to clear the sky. Proceeded and - with the escort over the target area - had 2 Mig-21-93 incoming. Called the escort for help, shot down one Mig and the escort got the other. Started our attack run but #1's GBUs only damaged the targets. #2 called out that the second Manufacturer was only damaged, but due to miscommunication between AWACS and #1 (numbering targets on briefed list vs. Recon list on AWACS screen) targeted a wrong building. The flight RTB'd and destroyed one SU-33 on BARCAP over alternative base.

Falcon 1-1 Crowebar Falcon 1-2 Tomb Falcon 1-3 Vosene
We planned on all surviving the mission, and with that in mind detailed Vosene to nuturalise the SA5 at stpt 4, the hook before turning South towards the target. Tomb was then to nuturalise the SA3 at the target while Vosene and I attacked the two Frigates docked in the harbour. All being well we would be back in time for Eastenders!
To facilitate the attack we took 2 X HARM and 2 X Penguine anti-ship missiles.
Then we took off! End of plan A.
Vosene Climbed High and fast to (successfully) engage the SA5 whose threat circle fell just short of home plate. He was very quickly engaged by 2 X Mig21 whilst launching his Harm, and went defensive the Migs and calling for our support. By the time Tomb and I found the Migs it was too late for Vosene who was now hanging on a chute smoking a panama. The Migs were too close by the time we found them and so Tomb and I ended up in a furball situation still in cat3. Fury flight saved our bacon engaging & destroying the migs. Cheers Mango.
Proceeding West, Tomb detected an SA10, which he promptly engaged and destroyed. I had no indication of the presence of this SA10, once again - no threat circle. While waiting for the Harm to strike, Fury flight were engaged by a flight of Mig21's resulting in some losses, and Ballistic calling for assistance. At this point my aircraft developed a fault with the flight control system and lost all response to pitch or roll, leaving me in a steady left bank. After a few attempts at fixing this I exited in the hope Tomb could use the AI but as I was lead AC he was unable to control it.
Ballistic escaped, the stike flight were engaged and destroyed by the Carrier, and Tomb pressed on towards target area. Tomb engaged and destroyed the SA3, and fired on one of the Frigates. Winchester, and alone, Tomb headed home. However by now the route home had become Perilous with many SU33's roaming the skies looking for lone vipers, looking for prey. Tomb fought valiantly but alas was outnumbered and quickly became another statistic.
As cowboy flight didn't reach or destroy target - Mission failure, in addtion to this, none of Falcon flight survived.

Fury 1-1 Pinbeck Fury 1-2 Novac Fury 1-3 AI
Objective, protect friendlies from A/A threats
Took off and joined with Griffin and Big Brother in Falcon flight to provide mutual support.
Soon after take off Falcon engaged SAM site but came under threat from a Mig-21 2 ship. Novac and myself engaged the Migs and shot them down while Falcon took care of the SAM threat.
Proceeded to next waypoint searching for threats as Strike flight Cowboy became airbourne.
Griffin in Falcon 1 called SA-10 active and as I was closer I took the shot destroying the SAM. As we got closer to the target area Falcon engaged the next group of SAM's while myself and Novac flew top cover. 2 ship Mig-29A's appeared on RWR at 12 o'clock called to Falcon that we would engage. I sorted on the trailer as Novac sorted the lead, both Mig's destroyed.
About this time we got a call from the strike flight lead Cowboy 1 that they had Mig-21's coming in hot, turned back to help with engagement. The Mig's came in behind us as we were engaging the 29's.
Tiag in Cowboy destroyed 1 Mig with Novac dispatching the wingman. Cowboy was cleared to proceed and we again flew point with Falcon.
Target area was cleared of SAM's by Falcon as myself and Novac in Fury flew a CAP between Falcon at target and Cowboy approaching target area. Mig-27's and SU-33's off the coast were watched in case they became a factor.
This is where my flight ended as I lost SA and wandered into the SAN-6 range and was shot down, stupid mistake.
Moved to AWAC and watched sky's as rest ot the flights carried on with mission.
Novac as Fury survivor can carry on with debrief if he wishes.
regards,
